FAQs
Below you will find a list of questions that may help answer some of your own. Alternatively, you can get in touch with the team here.
A typical osteopathic consultation starts with a thorough case history, and depending on your condition, we will then go on to examine your musculoskeletal and/or nervous system. Our osteopaths employ a whole body and mind approach to your healthcare, and as people are unique in their own way, our osteopathic management may vary from person to person. In some instances, we may ask you to complete questionnaires to assist us with devising the best management plan for you. Osteopathic management can include manual therapy, mobility and clinical exercise programs as well as pain education, postural advice and ergonomic assessments.
At Unity Health Osteo Clinic, we like to take the time to get to know you, so we allocate 60 minutes for an initial consultation. You will be asked to arrive 5 minutes early to fill in our new patient health history form so that your osteopath is up to date and informed on your past medical history. A standard/return consultation appointment will be up to 30 minutes.
You do not need a referral to make an appointment to see our osteopaths. Although many of our patients have, in the first instance, been referred to us by a medical practitioner or other health professionals.
At Unity Health Osteo Clinic we require payment at the time of your consultation. If you have any questions, please contact us prior to your consultation.
We have HICAPS facilities on site and if you have private health insurance you may be able to claim on the spot. For information regarding the amount of rebate you will receive, please contact your own private health care provider as the rebate amounts can vary.
Osteopathy is considered an allied health profession by the Australian government and therefore, Medicare rebates are generally not available for visits to an osteopath. For patients with chronic diseases and complex care needs there may be eligibility for a medicare rebate. For medicare benefits to be payable for osteopathy services, a patient must be referred to an osteopath by a GP and obtain a Chronic Disease Management Plan.
With a Chronic Disease Management plan, Medicare will subsidise a portion of your consultation fee, however there will still be a gap payment required on the day of your consultation. Bulk billing is not available. For further information regarding out of cost payments, please contact the clinic at unityhealthosteo@gmail.com and we will be more than happy to advise you of any out of pocket costs.
We appreciate 24 hours notice for cancellations when possible. However, the unexpected can happen, so a courtesy phone call or email if you are going to miss an appointment is always appreciated.
If you miss an appointment without giving notice, then then a cancellation fee equivalent to the full rate of the appointment may be charged.
